Broadus “Bo” Bowman archerbo2@gmail.com

Broadus Bowman (Bo) was born and raised in Maryland. He obtained a BS degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Maryland in 1963, and a MSME degree in 1970 from the University of Connecticut. Bo has been married to his wife Peggy for over 50 years, and they have two children and two grandchildren.

Bo’s engineering career began in the 1960’s where he worked as a test engineer on the development of the Apollo moon orbiter rocket engine. His career then took him to Connecticut for 8 years where he worked on the development of jet engines and ramjet engines for United Technologies. Bo later moved to Pittsburgh where he worked for 30 years for the Westinghouse Electric Corporation. At Westinghouse he worked for 19 years in various nuclear power plant-related divisions, helping the nuclear power industry get underway in its early days. During his last 11 years at Westinghouse, Bo managed the maintenance, environmental cleanup, and disposition of many large closed Westinghouse manufacturing facilities. Bo and his wife Peggy retired to Greenwood, SC in 2001. In Greenwood, Bo worked part-time for 3 years doing environmental engineering work.

Bo’s love of aviation began at the age of 8 when his parents got him an airplane ride in a 1946 Aeronca Champ. He eventually obtained his private pilot’s license in 1980 and later obtained his first airplane. He currently owns a Piper Archer which he hangars at the County Airport in Greenwood, SC. Over the years Bo has been very involved in the EAA’s Young Eagles Program, having recently passed the 300 level in giving youths free flights. In 2008, Bo became a volunteer pilot for an Angel Flight organization based in Georgia. For several years he was a volunteer pilot and ultimately the Director of a SC office for this organization. Early in 2014 Bo joined Mercy Flight Southeast as a volunteer pilot and continues to fly missions for people needing transportation for medical treatment(s). Bo feels honored to become the SC Wing Leader for this organization.
